I can write a book of essays that encourages, empowers and elevates.
I can title it, ”Live, Laugh, Goats”.
It will be my own little special, peculiar and exceptionally personal manifesto.
I can read a book.
I can order for spring planting! The coneflowers, hydrangeas, witch hazel and dogwoods I plant will provide beauty, joy, fragrance, nectar and shade for years to come. If I plant an oak tree in May it could provide shade for someone in the year 2125. (adding oak trees to spring order)
“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” Greek Proverb
I can draw/design future raised beds and dream about a garden shed.
I can announce my winter sowing workshop (Feb 15th) that is shaping up to be the gardening event of my season. I can gather brilliantly clever women (and I know a lot of them) that ain’t afraid to get their hands dirty and are willing to share their seeds and garden savvy - proving once again that life’s always better with a handful of old & new friends - and a sprinkling of garden hoes.
I can lift some weights, take a walk with Barry or Thelma and Louise or throw down some hay from the loft.
I can read pages from a journal written 5 years ago - like reading a time capsule.
I can invite friends over for coffee, a bunco extravaganza or Sunday supper.
I can plan the first annual goat beauty pageant, listen to the birds, fill the bird feeders, build a vision board for the month or the year, write a letter to my friend in Minnesota or someone who lives 15 minutes away and mail it.
I can build a ritual that feels so special and holy - I don’t want to interrupt or miss one single day. “Ritual” sounds extravagant and fancy and difficult. Not so.
My morning ritual includes prayer, gratitude, beautiful music and a candle.
It is non-negotiable. I won’t put it off. I want more of this. A night time ritual?
I can ask Barry to help me build a system for organizing my office.
(maybe tomorrow)
I can bake a pan of biscuits, slather on as much butter as they will hold and eat as many as I want.
I can do something that future Vikki would thank me for.
There are definite things I can’t do, can’t control and don’t even understand but
there are most definitely many things I can do. And I will.
What’s on your list?
Once you start thinking and writing - I bet you’ll be amazed at the things that come to mind. Things you can do no matter what is going on in the world.
Things that matter right now, to future you or even future generations.
Buckets of love coming at ya.
Hope everyone is warm and safe. Hope you have a stack of seed catalogs, list making supplies and at least one good book within reach.
