I’ve shared most of these before so they might be familiar. I revisit ancient and not so ancient wisdom regularly. Sometimes I forget important stuff.
The difference between inspiration and influence -
Influence comes from the outside and is someone or something that makes things happen. Influence pushes you and molds you. Inspiration, on the other hand, brings a spark and even hope to the heart. It’s uplifting. Inspiration doesn’t have intent. It’s not looking to change you. You have to be ready and looking for the transformation. Inspiration pulls.
“Growth and comfort can’t ride the same horse.” Margie Warrell
Eat like you love yourself.
Speak like you love yourself.
Move like you love yourself.
Think like you love yourself.
Act like you love yourself.
Jim Quik
- This needs to be second nature.
“Always assume positive intent.” BearKat
“There are two ways to grow: By adding or by shedding. Do you need to add something or do you need to shed something?” James Clear
“Be curious, not judgmental.” Walt Whitman
“You are far, far more than the best or worst thing you’ve done, left undone, or has been done to you.” Ian Simkins
Here are some quotes about fighting through—or just getting through—anything. I sent them to someone I love who felt like they were being ambushed from every direction. There is so much pressure to get things done, and the more there is to do—the less control there seems to be. Acceptance feels nearly impossible, but it might be the only way through seemingly impossible situations.
“But did you die?” I don’t know who to attribute this one to. It’s in not comforting but it’s a good way to reset your perspective. Right?
“You’re where you wanted to be aren’t you? So you’re taking a few blows. That’s the price for being in the arena and not on the sidelines…be grateful for it.” Steven Pressfield - The War of Art
“Adulting is sometimes a mf-er.” Me
“It won’t always be this way. You are building muscles to handle the next round of chaos and the ability to recognize the magic that also happens in that exact same spot.” Me
…fear not, good people of God, because whatever it is that you cling to: pleasing people, your insistence that you are totally fine, your victimhood, your resentments, thinking you can take care of that addict in your life and change them…whatever it is you cling to….remember that you are whole, and you are loved and you are His and that nothing else gets to tell you who you are. Be opened to knowing that your own brokenness doesn’t need to be hidden behind someone else’s…”
